This
means

work in progress

The 1,000 point scorers and those who scored 500 points in a season or 40 points in a game can be found elsewhere on this site.

I had been trying to compile lists of those who scored 400 points in a season or 700 in a career, but I've sort of ditched that project. So tedious. I'm still looking for those players, but I'm more interested in compiling lists of top 10 or 20 scorers for each program -- which is hard enough, but not as hard as mining the 400 and 700 players.

I think 700 is worth keeping tabs on since an average high school player will be a starter as a junior and senior. That's 350 points a year. And that's an average of 16 ppg if the team (on a 22-game schedule) doesn't make the playoffs.

One of the problems is the old newspapers site I subscribe to aren't available for all the years, especially from 1995ish-2010. And I don't want to go to the library and hog the little microfilm room it has because this work is time consuming.

Bottom line: I'm reworking these pages.

(Anyone who can think of players who fill the bill, don't hesitate to contact me at pennyweichel@outlook.com.)

Other little tidbits are included here, too -- not to mention an evolution of various scoring records.

UPDATE 6.1.23 -- I'm trying to collect 600-point season scorers for girls in the pre-winter 'modern era' (early 1970s-early 1980s). They played very abbreviated schedules.

ABOUT THIS SITE

If you are from Anywhere, USA, and happened to stumble upon this site, Franklin and Oil City are about eight miles apart along Route 8 in Venango County, Pa. -- which is about halfway between Pittsburgh and Erie in the western part of the state.

yardsandpoints.com (formerly venangofootball.com and then route8rivalry.com) covers the grid doings of Oil City and Franklin high schools in Venango County. It also includes the football histories of the two schools, which date back to 1896, along with that of Venango Catholic (nee Christian and formerly St. Joseph in Oil City), which dropped the sport in the 1990s. VC has been in co-ops with Oil City and Franklin since then. I've recently included more stuff on basketball concerning Venango County's five PIAA schools as well as the doings in other sports, fall through spring.

This is a Wix site with longtime but former Derrick sports editor Penny Weichel serving as webmaster. She is the former webmaster of ocpafootball.com and franklinpafootball.com, and most of the information found there can be found here.
