Newly named Pat Patterson Complex at the Oil Field in Oil City, Pa.
Awaiting dedication

The scoreboard panel to honor the late Pat Patterson arrived Monday and was installed Oct. 25 at the Oil Field.

It was hoped that the panel dedication would be held at the end of the football season, but Friday's game with Sharon was canceled.

Said organizer Bryan Schwab on Facebook, "After discussions with the family, alumni and pending school district approval hopefully can do the dedication the opening home game next football season."

The plaque to honor Pat Patterson was placed Aug. 30 at the entrance of the Oil Field in time for the Oilers' home  Sept. 1 against Corry.

The maintenance crew -- of supervisor Susan Acel along with Doug Snyder and Tom McFadden -- installed the plaque.

The facility will be renamed "The Coach Pat Patterson Complex" in memory of the late Oil City High School coach and educator.

However, there has  been a setback with the dedication ceremony, coordinator Bryan Schwab announced Aug. 18 on Facebook.

It was hoped that the dedication would be Sept. 16 when the Oilers play Franklin (Patterson's alma mater) for homecoming, but the company in charge of the scoreboard panels is running behind by about four weeks. (They were supposed to be shipped Aug. 26.)

"We now are looking at late September or early October for delivery and installation," Schwab posted on Facebook. "This delay only leaves the option of the two remaining home games at the end of October."

However, the delivery date was held up further. It finally arrived in late October --and installed -- but the home finale Oct. 28 against Sharon was canceled.

And so the dedication won't be until the 2023 season, probably the hope opener.

ABOUT THIS SITE

If you are from Anywhere, USA, and happened to stumble upon this site, Franklin and Oil City are about eight miles apart along Route 8 in Venango County, Pa. -- which is about halfway between Pittsburgh and Erie in the western part of the state.

yardsandpoints.com (formerly venangofootball.com and then route8rivalry.com) covers the grid doings of Oil City and Franklin high schools in Venango County. It also includes the football histories of the two schools, which date back to 1896, along with that of Venango Catholic (nee Christian and formerly St. Joseph in Oil City), which dropped the sport in the 1990s. VC has been in co-ops with Oil City and Franklin since then. I've recently included more stuff on basketball concerning Venango County's five PIAA schools as well as the doings in other sports, fall through spring.
